The historic town of Bath is known as the first European town to be founded in North Carolina. Though it was founded in 1705, the area near the Pamlico river was colonized in the 1690's. Bath was not only the first town, but also the first main port to be established in North Carolina. Now it is home to many historic buildings including the Palmer-Marsh house and St. Tomas church.
